So here I am commenting about American Idol again and late as usual. As of later I have been criticized for commenting about American Idol, and frankly I do not care what they say since I have a right to post anything I want in my blog. Coming back to American Idol last night’s show was a very interesting show with some really boring (but nice) songs. Blake’s beat boxing with someone (I cannot remember who?) was the most entertaining part of the show. Ryan being smooched by that banana goes down probably as the most shocking and hilarious part of the show and it was great to see American Idol recognizing Carrie Underwood for her achievements.

It was a really great performance by Chris Daughtry on the day of the performances and it was a pleasant surprise to see him in action. It was one of those days where they were able to get all previous winners except Fantasia to be together on stage.

On the winners, I do not think I can put down Jordin as the one who deserves to win but this time the finalists are much better than last year. I would have loved to see Blake carry the title, but win or not I think that Blake will be the most successful person out of this years contestants. I think both the finalists will do well but Blake might just be a bit more popular than Jordin.

Now I cannot wait for their albums to be released and I also hope that Melinda Doolittle manages to secure a recording deal since she is the one who should have won this year.

Ok, this is a bit of old news now but yesterdays show produced one of the worst results ever. Melinda Doolittle the best and most consistent singer this season and probably for all seasons got voted out of the competition. Yesterday I avoided web pages such as the Yahoo home page, the American Idol and a few other web sites but I was in for a surprise when I happened to come across Kalharie’s blog listed on Kottu which contained a post called “Terrible News – Melinda exits from American Idol” detailing who was eliminated. Well so much for me avoiding the results so that I can watch it on ETV at night, I went home knowing the results but did not divulge it to anyone. I guess that I have add Kottu also to the “sites to avoid list” next thursday if I want to keep the final results show interesting.

This result leaves Jordin and Blake in the competition. Hmmm…. both are good singers(not excellent) but I think that Blake will win the competition since he has this unique style in singing along with beat boxing.

Nevertheless the most deserving person will not win this year too. The same thing happened last year when Chris Daughtry (the most deserving person last year) was eliminated resulting in Taylor Hicks winning. America needs to learn how to vote, maybe they should take some tips from Sri Lankans. Get the Picture?

Surprised well “yes” and “no”. I did say that she will make it to the top and she did, but she did not have it in her to take her through. Over the last few weeks her vocal standards were dropping and her song choices were not really top class. It must have been very close between Blake and Lakisha since Blake was also not too impressive this week. I believe that Lakisha will be awarded a recording contract since she can actually perform better than she did in the last few weeks of the competition. On the other hand Blake is now getting into the habit of overdoing his beatboxing and might have to face the cut next week. However since he is the only boy in the competition which coupled with an excellent performance next week will increase his chance of making the final.

Jordin made some really good song choices this week but the vocals were not overly impressive. Jordin too has a chance of winning the competition but after taking both contestants past performances into consideration it looks like Melinda will be crowned American Idol 2007.  Well in two weeks time we will find out.

Well another successful Amazing Race Season has come to an end and this has been one of the best seasons that I have seen. At the beginning I was not sure whether an All Stars edition featuring previous season contestants will be interesting but it turned out to be a really good season.

I never expected Eric & Danielle to win the race after been yielded twice and never winning any stage of the race but it turned out that they won the last and most important stage of the race. After all the hype surrounding Rob and Amber who totally dominated the initial stages of the race it looked like they are going to run away with the competition but it turned out to be that the only stage that they could not win turned out to be the stage in which they were eliminated.

Eric and Danielle were not my favorites, in fact I did not have any favourites since they were all impressive as the race progressed.

So all in all it was one of the best seasons of The Amazing Race and it seems that I will have to wait till the latter part of this year to enjoy the next edition of the race and I am not sure whether it will be a special edition or just the ordinary version. Anyway I will have two versions to enjoy since The Amazing Race Asia 2 produced by AXN will also make an appearance towards the latter part of this year.

Well after facing a week of non elimination lat week, this week saw two American Idol contestants being voted off. Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson said goodbye this week. I could not watch the results show due to the severe thunderstorms last night but I did catch their performances on wednesday night. On the American Idol Web Site I was able to catch the moment they were voted off.

Talking about Chris, he has been in the bottom 3 for quite sometime now but this week his performance was quite good and Phil was also very good this week and pulled off a whopper of a performance. I even thought that if he continues like this he might even become runner up this year but it was not to be so. The worst performance this week was by Jordin Sparks and somehow I feel that she should have been eliminated but she survived.

Simon was not that impressed by Phil and Chris this week and looks like America have agreed with him.

Well as I have been saying all these days it looks like Melinda Doolittle will win American Idol this year and there seems to be no one who can challenge her unless she comes up with some really bad performances in the coming few weeks which is highly unlikely. The contest among the others is for the runners up position this year and I feel that Blake might just make it but then who knows.

So the Top 4 are Blake, Melinda, Lakisha and Jordin

Due to the Sinhala/Tamil New Year last week I could not do a post on the Idol elimination last week. Well it came as no surprise since Haley was eliminated last week and it was bound to happen sooner or later. If that was not enough Sanjaya was finally eliminated this week. This was also not a surprise since he made a mess of his performance and did not deserve to stay. He seems to be such a nice guy but he is definitely not a good singer. However I feel that this guy will have some success in showbiz as soon as he finds his niche. He is very good at making himself popular.

Well it was another wonderful performance by Melinda as usual and a surprisingly excellent song by Phil Stacey. I still think that Melinda will go on to win the show but the fight for the runner up spot is very tight. Lakisha Jones who was going strong is now on a downward trend and I will not be surprised if she gets eliminated in the next few weeks if she continues this trend.

The guys who had a disastrous start to the season are now doing really well and it will not be surprising if one of the them takes second place.

The top six this time are really good and since all the misfits have being eliminated the competition I believe will become much stronger from next week onwards.

Last weeks edition of American Idol saw the contest saying goodbye to girl rocker Gina Glocksen. I am not sure how the performances for last week turned out since I could not watch the show due to a thunderstorm.

Gina has not been a spectacular singer but has raised her game a few times earlier but not sure about the last week. She is someone I think could have made the top 6 and it seems that Haley and Sanjaya are still in the competition, may not be for long though since the competition is now really hotting up.

Judging from the previews shown in the results show, I think Melinda showed her usual class and out performed the others.

Another round of voting and another contestant voted off. This time of course I do not mind that Chris Sligh was voted off since his performance was not up to the standard. Sanjaya survived once again after pulling off a fairly okay performance with a volcanic hairstyle. I think Sanjaya should have been in the bottom three this time round and I think that Haley lifted her singing this week. However I do not think that Sanjaya and Haley deserve a place in the top 6 because they are just not good enough and it this happens it would definitely mean that some others who deserved a chance did not make it.

Melinda Doolittle is going very strong at the moment and is well on her way to win the competition and I hope that Melinda’s fans who know how good a singer she is will continue to vote for her since if they do not do so it would result in the best singer in the competition being eliminated.

Another night of American Idol voting results has produced another shocker. Stephanie a better singer than some of the others who made it has been eliminated. I never for a moment expected Stephanie to win but I think she deserved a place in the top 6. Chris Richardson who actually performed well this week ended up being in the bottom 2.

Well it seems Sanjaya has made it through again, with his crazy performance of a song and I never understood the words that he sang since he was only running around, jumping and screaming. Looks like there are many deaf Americans who are watching American Idol and voting for Sanjaya.

I hope Sanjaya and Haley get eliminated soon since they are the two worst singers out of all the contestants and the more they stay in the competition it is resulting in better singers being eliminated.

As usual Melinda Doolittle put on a whopper of a performance and is well on her way to win American Idol Season 6.

During the first round of elimination of the American Idol top 12 finalists saw Brandon leaving and Sanjaya getting another lease of life on the show. I think what saved Sanjaya was the fact that Brandon made a mess of the words while he was singing. From the performances held so far my opinion is that Brandon is a better singer than Sanjaya but once you mess up the words then your fate is secured. Not many who have messed up the words have survived for long in the competition but if my memory serves me right I think Carrie Underwood forgot some words a few times but she went on to win the competition which is obviously because she is a very good singer but unfortunately Brandon is not.

So Sanjaya lives to fight another day and my guess is that he will be voted off next week since he has been coming into the bottom two or bottom three now consistently but then things can change. I have nothing against Sanjaya but sadly the fact is that there are two people namely Sanjaya and Haley who now in the top 11 but do not deserve to be there because they are not as good as the others and there were better singers than them who have been voted off.

So it looks like Melinda Doolittle is getting stronger in the competition and gave a good performance this week too and it is safe to say that she is well on her way to win American Idol 6.
